V-League Season 9 Open Conference moved to August 19



The 9th Season of Shakey's V-League Open Conference kicks off this August 19-Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Many fans were confused about the opening day of V-League. V-League said they need more time to prepare for this season. They invited 8-12 teams to participate for this open conference. So far, 5 teams confirmed their participation.

Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles headed by setter Jem Ferrer, captain Dzi Gervacio, veterans Fille Cainglet and Gretchen Ho.

The Defending Champions, the Philippine Army is trying to defend its crown headed by veterans Michelle Carolino, Erse Iratay, Mayette Carolino, Jov Gonzaga, and Rachel Anne Daquis.

Cagayan/Tuguegarao Team, composed of core Perpetual players and some recruits is also expected to join this conference.

Maynilad, who joined season 8 open conference, also confirmed their participation. They have players like Bev Boto, Charisse Ancheta, Mervic Mangui, etc.

A corporate team- Sandugo, newcomer to V-League, is trying to get players like Nerissa Bautista, Sue Roces, Pau Soriano, Rubie De Leon.

Navy and Air Force are not participating for reasons of no competitive team.

ADMU takes V-League Crown

Ateneo De Manila University survived against the University of Santo Tomas in 5 thrilling sets 5-19, 25-14, 17-25, 20-25, 15-13 in the Game 3 of the Finals of Shakey's V-League Season 9 1st Conference.

Lady Eagles, led by Thai Import Lithawat Kesinee, Fille Cainglet, Angeline Gervacio, and Jem Ferrer, grabbed their Back-to-Back crown in Shakey's V-League. Alyssa Valdez named as the player of the game with 22 points (19 attacks, 1 block, 2 serves).

UST gave Ateneo a tough fight. They managed to bounce back after loosing the first two sets but Ateneo just poured it all in last part of the 5th set.

Ateneo takes Game 2, Forces a decider

Ateneo De Manila University defeat University of Santo Tomas in 4 sets 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 28-26 to get Game 2 of the Best of Three Final Series of the 9th Season of the Shakey's V-League.

ADMU locals Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio, and setter Jem Ferrer work very hard to win this game to extend the series to a game 3. Thai Import Lithawat Kesinee also helped the Lady Eagles in order to force a game 3 against UST.

UST's Thai Import Utaiwan Kaensing is the highest scorer for UST backed up by Maika Ortiz and Judy Caballejo.

Alyssa Valdez named as the player of the game with 31 points (22 attacks, 1 block, 8 serves).

San Sebastian ends VLeague Season 9 as Bronze Medalist






San Sebastian College-Recoletos won against University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in 4 sets 26-24, 25-17, 24-26, 25-23 and grab the Bronze Medal in Shakey's V-League Season 9 1st Conference.

This is SSC's third time to win the Bronze Medal (Season 2, Conf 2; Season 5, Conf 1; Season 9, Conf 1). Team Captain and MVP Jang Bualee leads the Lady Stags in the whole conference. She scored 35 points and Benito, a graduating player of San Sebastian, added 15 points.

On the other hand, Perpetual's Thai Import Pornpimol Kunbang scored 14 points.

Guest player Rubie De Leon named as the player of the game with 50 excellent sets.

UST wins Game 1

University of Santo Tomas managed to defeat the Ateneo De Manila University in 4 sets 16-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 in today's 2nd game, the Finals Game 1 of the Shakey's V-League Season 9, Conference 1.

Ateneo Lady Eagles took the first set. The key of Ateneo to win the first set is their blockings (6 blocks on the 1st set). But UST was able to control the 2nd set (with 5 blocks), also the 3rd and 4th set.

Mary Jean Balse named as the player of the game with 11 points (9 attacks, 2 blocks).

Lady Stags just once step closer to 3rd Place

San Sebastian College Recoletos survived in a thrilling 5 sets against the current NCAA Champions University of Perpetual Help System Dalta 25-14, 25-23, 16-25, 32-34, 15-9 in today's Battle for Third held at The Arena in San Juan.

Jang Bualee poured her all just to win this game to gain 1-0 advantage against the Altas. She scored 34 points (33 attacks, 1 block) and was named as the player of the Game.

UST, Ateneo in VLeague Finals

Ateneo Lady Eagles showed their dominance as they are still undefeated in Shakey's V-League Season 9, Conference 1.

Lady Eagles just finished Lady Altas in 2 games (with 3 straight sets) in their Semi Finals Best of Three Series.

Thai Import Lithawat Kesinee, a former Most Valuable Player, is expected by Coach Roger Gorayeb to lead his team to win their back-to-black title in Shakey's V-League. She is also the #1 Best Blocker of the conference. Guest player Sue Roces, also a MVP awardee, is expected to be a factor for Ateneo. Fille Cainglet (Season 8, Conf 1 Most Improved player), Dzi Gervacio, Alyssa Valdez, and ace setter Jem Ferrer should step up to win against Tigresses.

This is the first time that UST Tigresses get a Thai Import for their campaign in Shakey's V-League Season 9, Conference 1.

UST Tigresses managed to survive against the Lady Stags in the Best of Three Series of Semi Finals. Lady Stags forced a sudden do-or-die GAME 3 against the Tigresses.

Utaiwan Kaensing, who's currently the #1 Best Spiker of the Conference, together with UST Alumni and Former MVP Mary Jean Balse (who suffered from a knee injury in their game against SSC in Semi Finals) is hoping to get UST's 7th title in Shakey's V-League stint. Graduating player Rhea Dimaculangan should also step up for her team because she's the team captain of the squad. The tandem of Maru Banaticla, Maika Ortiz, and Judy Caballejo will be big factor for UST.

UST ready to take on Ateneo

University of Santo Tomas Tigresses show their power and skills as they defeat San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the Game 3 of Semi Finals Best of 3 Series.


Tigresses managed to win in 3 straight sets against the Lady Stags 25-12, 25-13, 25-23. Judy Caballejo was named as the player of the game with 14 points (13 attacks and 1 block). Utaiwan Kaensing also scored 15 points with 2 block points to win game no. 3.

SSC-R's Game Captain Jang Bualee scored 18 points much lower than her previous games which she scored 30 to 40 points.

Meanwhile, the delayed telecast of this game will be tonight on AKTV13.

SSC forces a Game 3

San Sebastian College- Recoletos Lady Stags won against the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses in a 5 setter game 22-25, 29-27, 14-25, 25-23, 15-12 and forces a game 3 on Thursday.

SSC's top scorer and also the league's no. 1 Best Scorer Jang Bualee scored 40 big points (highest scored so far in VLeague) for her team (38 attacks, 1 serve, 1 block) while the veteran Jhoy Benito contributed 20 points.

UST's errors made it easy for San Sebastian to win especially in the 5th set. Judy Caballejo led UST with her 25 points while Utaiwan has 20 and Ortiz with 18.

Game 3 of the Best of 3 Series will be on Thursday, 4pm.

Lady Eagles now on Finals

Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles won against the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Lady Altas in straight sets 25-23, 25-11, 25-23 and now going to the Finals of Shakeys V-League Season 9, Conference 1.

Thai Import Pnok Kesinee was chosen as the player of the game with 17 points (11 from attacks and 6 blocks). Roces and Gervacio both scored 10 points a piece. In the absence of Ho, and Valdez(in the 2nd set), the Lady Eagles still managed to win against the Lady Altas.

On the other hand, Perpetual's Guest Players April Sartin and Pornpimol Kunbang scored 20 points (combined).

International Volleyball Superstars

1. Saori Kimura - Japan


She is a current member of Toray Arrows Club Team and Japan Women's National Volleyball Team. She won different individual awards such as MVP in Japan Championship, Best Server in 14th and 15th Senior Asian Championship, and Best Scorer in 2010 World Grand Prix.

2. Destinee Hooker - USA

She is a current member of Dynamo Krasnodar Club Team (Russia) and USA Women's National Volleyball Team. She joined the USA National Team last 2008 and won as 2011 World Cup Best Spiker and Most Valuable Player last 2011 World Grand Prix.

3. Ekaterina Gamova - Russia


She is a current member of Russia Women's National Volleyball Team that won medals at 2006 and 2010 Women's World Championships. She's currently playing in Dinamo Kazan Club Team in Russia. Gamova already won individual awards- Best Scorer and Best Blocker in 2004 Olympics, MVP Award in 2010 Russian Cup and Best Scorer in 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix.

4. Kim Yeon Koung - South Korea




She currently plays in Fenerbahçe (Turkish Club Team) and a member of South Korean Women's National Volleyball Team. She is also known as "Asian Gamova". She won different awards- MVP and Best Scorer in 2011-2012 CEV Champions League and also the Best Scorer, Best Spiker, and Best Receiver in 2012 World Olympic Qualification Tournament.

5. Wang Yi Mei - China


She is a member of China Women's National Volleyball Team and expected to lead China NWVT in 2008 Olympics (they finished as 3rd placers). She is known for her powerful jump serve. She won as Best Server in 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix, Best Spiker in 2008 Asian Women's Cup Volleyball Championship, and MVP in 2011 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship.

Olympic Games is a major sports event participated by thousands of athletes all over the world. One of the sports in Olympics is Volleyball. The qualification for the 2012 Women's Olympic Volleyball Tournament is already done (November 20, 2011-June 10, 2012).

There are 12 teams that will compete in Olympics (for Women's Volleyball). The host country;
The top 3 of the 2011 World Cup; The Champions of the Continental Qualification Tournament (African,  European, North American and South American; The top 3 of the World Qualification Tournament; and 1 from the Asian Qualification Tournament.

The host country is Great Britain.

Lady Eagles still undefeated

Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles won the Game 1 against the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in 3 straight sets 31-29, 25-20, and 25- 19. Ella De Jesus named as the player of the game with 9 points (8 attacks, 1 serve).

Thai Import Pnok Kesinee and Alyssa Valdez with a combined score of 29 points for the Eagles while Perpetual's Thai Import Pornpimol Kunbang contributed 12 points and Sandra Delos Santos with 16.

Ateneo needs to win the Game 2 to get into the Finals while Perpetual must win the Game 2 to push Ateneo on a Game 3.

Tigresses won Game 1 against Lady Stags

In spite of the absence of Mary Jean Balse in the 5th set(she twisted her knee), University of Santo Tomas Tigresses managed to win the Game 1 of the Semi Finals against the Lady Stags of San Sebastian in 5 sets, 25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 15-8. UST is just one step closer to reach the Finals. Rhea Dimaculangan, UST's Team Captain, named as the player of the game with 5 points and 44 excellent sets. SSC-R's Jang Bualee with 34 points while Benito with 15 points.

She lead the Lady Spikers to their back-to-back championship (UAAP Season 73 and 74) and also the Team Captain of the team. She also won Finals MVP (UAAP Season 73 and 74).



UE Lady Warriors: Jimberly Dizon, Kite Rosale, and Theresa Caballero






3 Lady Warriors will say goodbye to their team. With their 6th place finish last season (4-10) record, Coach Boy Dalistan will lean on his veteran player Leuseht Dawis and powerful open spiker Sarina Bulan.

UST Tigresses: Rhea Katrina Dimaculangan



Team Captain Rhea Dimaculangan will say goodbye to UST WVT after her 5 years playing for the team (UAAP Season 70-74). Now it is time for Coach Odjie to replace their veteran setter who won the Finals MVP last UAAP Season 72.

VLeague Semis starts tomorrow





Game 1 of the Semi Final round will start tomorrow live at The Arena in San Juan.

The No. 1 team Ateneo Lady Eagles will take on the #4 team Perpetual Lady Altas at 2pm. Thai Import Pnok Kesinee is expected to lead the lady eagles in this game. Regular players Fille Cainglet, Alyssa Valdez, Dzi Gervacio, team captain Gretchen Ho, and setter Jem Ferrer will also going to contribute points for the Lady Eagles to win game no.1. On the other hand, Coach Mike Rafael of Perpetual is expecting Sandra Delos Santos, Thai Import Pornpimol Kunbang, and Guest Player April Sartin to lead his team to win this best of three semi final series.

It is very unusual to see these two teams battling for a slot in the Finals as the UST Tigresses will take on SSC-R Lady Stags at 4pm. The #1 Best Scorer of the conference Jang Bualee is the key of San Sebastian to win this game against the Tigresses. With the power of Thai Import Utaiwan Kaensing and UST Alumni guest player Mary Jean Balse, Coach Odjie is confident that they will win against the Lady Stags.
